Working principle of activated carbon plate air filter

2024-07-25

The working principle of activated carbon plate air filter mainly relies on the adsorption characteristics of activated carbon, which removes harmful gases and odor molecules from the air through physical and chemical adsorption, providing people with a fresher air environment.
1、 Activated carbon plate air filter has adsorption characteristics
Porosity: Activated carbon is a type of carbonized material with multiple pore sizes, possessing an extremely rich pore structure and a large specific surface area, generally reaching 700-1200m ²/g. These pores provide a large surface area for adsorption.
Adsorption method: There are two main adsorption methods for activated carbon:
Physical adsorption: Gas molecules are adsorbed onto the surface of activated carbon through van der Waals forces. When gas molecules pass through the surface of activated carbon, molecules smaller than the pore size of activated carbon will be adsorbed onto the outer surface of activated carbon and further transferred to the inner surface through internal diffusion, achieving adsorption effect.
Chemical adsorption: In some cases, chemical bond synthesis occurs between the adsorbate and the atoms on the surface of activated carbon, forming a more stable adsorption state.

2、 The working process of activated carbon plate air filter cartridge
Air intake: Air is drawn into an air purifier or related equipment and passes through an activated carbon plate air filter.
Filtration and adsorption:
Mechanical filtration: The initial filtering function of the filter element may include removing larger particles such as dust, hair, etc.
Activated carbon adsorption: When air passes through the activated carbon layer, harmful gases (such as formaldehyde, benzene, VOCs, etc.), odor molecules, and some small particles in the air will be adsorbed by the microporous structure of the activated carbon.
Clean air output: After being filtered and adsorbed by the activated carbon layer, the air becomes fresher and is then released indoors or continued to be used in other devices.
3、 Maintenance and replacement of activated carbon plate air filter element
Over time, impurities will gradually accumulate in the pores of activated carbon, leading to a decrease in the adsorption capacity of the filter element.
When the adsorption effect of the filter element is significantly reduced, it needs to be maintained or replaced. Generally, partial adsorption function is restored by backwashing the filter material with reverse water flow, but when the activated carbon reaches saturation adsorption capacity, a new filter element needs to be replaced.

4、 Application scenarios of activated carbon plate air filter cartridge
Activated carbon plate air filters are widely used in various places that need to improve air quality, such as homes, offices, hospitals, schools, industrial plants, etc. It can effectively remove harmful substances from the air, improve indoor air quality, and ensure people's health.
